Research shows clinically significant results using the EMDR Integrative Group Treatment Protocol for Ongoing Traumatic Distress
Starting a woman's therapy group has been a dream and goal of mine since I became an RCC and founded Kindred Counselling. Part of this is influenced by earlier in my career doing group facilitation with at-risk children and teens in a community environment.
As I completed basic training in EMDR I fell in love with it. Then I went on to become a Certified EMDR Therapist and then an Approved EMDR Consultant, my end goal is to become a trainer. It was then when I started to think about all the possibilities of facilitating EMDR outside of just individual work to reach more people.
So, I registered for an advanced EMDR training in EMDR Integrative Group Treatment Protocol for Ongoing Traumatic Distress. I flew to Orange County California for the training. It was then when it solidified in my mind about how this group protocol could apply to women in the modern world who are trying to manage everyday life while simultaneously dealing with ongoing traumatic distress.
About the Group
When I say traumatic ongoing distress I'm saying a very wide range of issues but the issue itself doesn't matter so much for the group, its more the commonality of being in ongoing distress that is the focus. Remember trauma is subjective, so what may be traumatizing for one person may not be traumatizing for another. Participants will have a range of the intensity of how their traumatic stress is impacting them, however in this group participants will be screened and issues will be addressed in the intake session. Also, each participant with have one of the counsellors connected to them in to touch base with individually as needed.
This group a balance of in-session individual work and group work. You do not need to be an extrovert to be a member of this group as "sharing" beyond your comfort level isn't required. It's more about learning, feeling supported, having a mutual experience, and being guided and taught by professionals who care deeply about your progress.
The group will have a ratio of 2 therapists to 8 participants. At times there may be three if I am training someone and they are observing. The therapists are experienced Registered Clinical Counsellors who have advanced training and years of experience using in EMDR and facilitating group work.
