Emma Twidale

MSW, RSW

EMDR Therapist
Online Only

I am Emma and my pronouns are she/her.

I have an undergrad degree in Social Work from UVic and a Masters of Social Work in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency, from the University of Toronto. I am an experienced Social Worker having worked at my local health authority in addictions treatment for the last 15 years.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in compassion, empathy, and a true understanding of the diverse challenges that life can bring and know that although adverse childhood experiences may have been impactful on you, healing is possible for everyone.

Having personally faced significant life challenges such as trauma, addiction, homelessness, loss, and aging out of foster care, I understand the complexities of healing from difficult experiences.

My own journey has shaped my trauma-informed approach, and I bring a unique perspective to supporting clients who are navigating their own challenges. EMDR has been key in my own recovery, and I am confident that EMDR will be an effective treatment for your recovery as well. If you’re ready to take the next step toward healing and growth, please feel free to contact me.

A Bit More About Emma

As a substance use clinician, I have walked alongside hundreds of folks and witnessed their recovery from moderate to severe substance use and traumatic lived experiences. I continue this work in community and have taken on supporting rural and remote communities by facilitating workshops about responding to crises, debriefing potentially traumatic events, and healing trauma, mental health, and substance use issues that present due to systemic, historical, and ongoing harms caused by colonialism.

Areas of Focus in EMDR

  • Working with clients who are neurodivergent

  • Working with substance use / abuse

  • Interpersonal violence / sex work / domestic violence

  • Challenging psychedelic experiences

  • Intergenerational trauma

Professional Experience

Following many years of struggle, I chose to live and get well around 2002. I came to this field as a youth mentor working in a youth centre around 2002, then began my educational journey in 2005 and worked with the BC Society of Transition Houses working closely with women and families who have experienced abuse for nearly ten years. In 2013, I began working as a substance use clinician in community within the health authorities.
